In-Studio Dance Convention

This weekend is the first dance convention that I’m going to this year. In dance conventions there are usually 7 to 10 well known choreographers that travel around the country to teach pre-professional dance teams like mine. There are usually about 90 to 120 per room so it can be hard to dance sometimes with only one teacher to help everyone. Later this year a couple of dancers from my studio (including me) are going to Houston for 24/7 (another convention) for 4 days. I’m also competing my solo for the first time this year at this convention so I’m kind of nervous.

Nutcracker Rehersals

As the winter season is coming to a climax I find that my schedule is becoming more and more busy. Not with school work, not with relatives, but with Nutcracker rehearsals. Since I dance in not only both casts but both Acts as well I have to be at every rehearsal for the full length. That means rehearsals from either 2 or 3pm to 9 or 9:30pm every day. I love the back-stage atmosphere though so I hope it never ends.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. Usually my family will make the drive out to Lake Charles, Louisiana. This is one of those years. This year my mom is going to New York with one of my sisters and one of my brothers to take care of my Grandmother. Because a lot of my siblings will be staying at college, I’ll be making the drive with only three of my brothers and my dad for six very long hours.

Bucket List

So lately my friends have been taking about what they would put on their bucket list. A bucket List is a list of things you want to do/accomplish by the time you “kick the bucket”, hence the name. So here goes…

1) Go skydiving (I know it’s pretty generic)
2) Visit all 7 continents
3) Travel in the Tardis (If only…)
4) Experience zero gravity
5) Become fluent in 3 languages (trilingual?)
6) Go a full week without electronics
7) Visit all 50 states
8) Go a full day without talking

My Puppy

I have a big family and even though I have asked for a dog again and again I have never gotten one. Well until now. My big sister, Joy, had just gotten a new German Spitz puppy. We got to take care of it for two weeks wile she was competing in Asia and we fell in love with it. MY family is a bit big for a dog so we we were more than a little annoyed at getting shouldered with a 2 month old puppy who desperately needed training but has soon has he came that feeling flew away. Of course when my sister came to take him home we were all very upset but but then we found out that she got promoted to Soloist and would be traveling around Russia for a year which meant that we could keep the dog. He’s now 4 months old and growing, if possible, even cuter.

I Am From My Family

I am from double bunk beds

from screams and shouts

I am from the stone house between the 60 foot palm trees

the smell of maple bacon wafting through the house at ungodly hours

I am from the Gardenia whose long limbs always scratching on the windows

I am from arguments or “debates”

From Mom and Dad and the rest of my “innocent” siblings

and from practical jokes

I am from punishments and rewards

and the “Not Me” monster

I am from Santa Monica

From too much Valium

and stories that will last forever

I am from long forgotten pictures in photo albums that probably won’t ever      be found

I am from all of these things both good and bad

I am from all of these things weather I like it or not

Nutcraker Spectacular

This weekend I’m auditioning for my dance studio’s adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker is a classic Christmas story written in 1892.This will be my studios 10th year performing this famous ballet and my third year performing in it. My first year I played the main character, Clara, along with another party girl in cast 2. Last year I played the Jester which is a magical “toy” brought to life by Clara’s godfather (Drosselmeyer) and an Arabian. This year since I’m on Pointe I want to be one of the flowers at the end but it is very unlikely that I’ll get the part since this is only my first year on Pointe. Wish me luck!
